Previous Testimonial / Next Testimonial

As a first year student at Acadia, I had a broad range of interests and did not know what to study. After taking a number of electives in the first semester, it became evident that economics was the perfect subject in which to concentrate. I loved the way economic thinking used a systematic approach for making sense of our world.

It really helped that my economic professors in first year were the kind of professors who transmit their love for the subject onto the students.

I have not regretted my decision to major in economics. The academic challenge was stimulating and the professors and other students were incredibly supportive. I have many memories of days in the library working on economic problems alone or with classmates. When I got stuck on a problem, I could just go up to the professor’s office to get guidance. The doors were always open- in what other school, in what other department, does every single faculty member know you by name?

I am confident that my experience at Acadia as an economics student has prepared me for postgraduate education. I am now able to view the world from an analytic viewpoint, preparing me for whatever field I choose (likely that will include working for an NGO). The education in the Acadia economics department is top-notch and if I were to go back to my first year, I would definitely do it again, thesis and all!
