Three years on from graduation, I am using my economics degree every single day. In fact, I sometimes get frustrated that I didn’t take more classes. I don’t work as an economist or in a bank, but in the world of business intelligence and media. Every day I have to understand the ramifications of micro and macroeconomic trends. I wouldn’t be able to do it without the education and guidance I received.
Acadia is a dream for students that are creators. For students that don’t just want to coast, but want to build something bigger, better. The staff will go out of their way to help you achieve everything you set out to do. This includes providing funding for trips, guidance for job interviews, and offering ideas for new and radical academic groups and projects. In my time, the Economics faculty was instrumental in helping my classmates and I launch the Acadia Economics Society and the first annual Atlantic Canada Undergraduate Economics Conference. They were right there every step of the way with advice, insight, and occasionally a credit card to cover our tabs (thanks Burc & Scott!). They thrive off student engagement and I can honestly say that I learned as much outside of the classrooms as I did inside.
While I sometimes miss my time at Acadia, I’m even more excited about all the opportunities that it opened up for me.
